Alexis de Tocqueville Society

Alexis de Tocqueville Society is a vibrant network of philanthropic leaders committed to expanding high-level giving across the entire United Way community. Founded in 1984 by the Nashville Chapter of United Way, Alexis de Tocqueville Society takes inspiration from the progressive 19th century French political thinker, who was struck by the spirit of voluntary action he saw during his travels to America. Alexis de Tocqueville Society celebrates the link between personal philanthropic action and lasting change by focusing on three intertwined elements of a good life: quality education, livable income and health.
