OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe each child is unique in their experiences, strengths, and perspectives of the world around them. We recognize that a child’s family is a critical component of their development. We have an open-door policy which welcomes families into our program to share their traditions and interests or simply to spend a bit of time in the classroom with their child.

We offer Dual Language classrooms that aim to provide instruction in both English and Spanish evenly throughout the day. Our classrooms are also inspired by the Anti-Bias curriculum which celebrates all differences. Children are encouraged to be active and curious in their own learning and development.

Learning areas in the bright, spacious classrooms include dramatic play, science, blocks, a writing center, book/library area, creative expression and art, math, manipulatives, music, sensory enrichment, and hands-on exploration. All children play outdoors on age-appropriate playgrounds which incorporate organic materials and nature play.

Our program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which recognizes children’s natural desire to learn through discovery, experimentation and exploration. Our educators work alongside children as they build upon these interests to develop classroom projects and areas of study. When a child’s joyful curiosity is ignited early, that flame endures even when challenges kick in. Valued as strong, competent and resilient learners, young children who come out of our Reggio Emilia-inspired program emerge prepared for success in school and life.

Application process for 2020-2021 school year (August 2020 – May 2021):

*All applicants must be 3 or 4 years old as of September 1, 2020

We are now accepting applications for 3- and 4-year olds* for the 2020-2021 school year! For best consideration, submit your application before April 30, 2020. All applications received by this date will be entered into the lottery.

There are two Priority levels assigned to incoming applications. Priority status does not guarantee a spot in our program.

  • Primary priority: families in need of the Extended Hours schedule.
  • Secondary priority:
    •  Children who have participated in the United Way First Born Program OR Family, Friends, and Neighbors Program
    •  Children who have a sibling who previously attended the United Way Early Learning Center at Kaune.

The lottery will be drawn on May 1, 2020. Families will receive notification of the lottery results by May 15, 2020. Each family is responsible for keeping their contact information current.

If your child is selected to attend Kaune, you will be contacted by phone.

If your child is NOT selected to attend Kaune, s/he will be placed on the waitlist and will be sent a letter by mail.

Staff will attempt to contact a family twice. After two attempts, staff will note that the family has declined enrollment and will not call again.

All applications received after April 30th, 2020 will be added to the end of the wait list in the order they are received.

If you are interested in the 2020 Summer Program (core hours and extended hours during June and July), please indicate on your application.

  • “We had such a positive experience with our older son attending PreK at The Early Learning Center that we have recently enrolled our younger son. The teachers contribute to all children feeling eager and confident to begin their learning experience. Both of our boys have gained a real love for school while attending Pre-K, and are active and engaged learners. We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff and teachers. We have gained friends and truly feel a part of the school community. We will always be grateful for the wonderful experience our family has had with The Early Learning Center.”
