Afterschool Teacher in the Santa Fe Children’s Project
Part-Time, Seasonal Employment (16 hours/week, Monday-Thursday 2-6 PM*), projected start date of 08/22/2011*

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Afterschool Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining an enriching classroom environment that gives students a safe, structured environment for learning and recreation. To ensure safety and accountability, the Afterschool Teacher must conform to UWSFC requirements and regulations while teaching and caring for their students. This position requires a high degree of proficiency with classroom management, effective oral communication at age-appropriate levels, creative activity planning, multi-tasking, and efficient conflict-resolution. Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills are preferred. Occasional local travel is required for field trips and errands.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. High school diploma or GED; prefer higher education degree, specifically in teaching/education or closely related coursework
2. Experience working with school-age children; prefer at least three months experience working with children in groups
3. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
4. Love of children, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a sense of humor
5. Ability to teach all elementary level academic subjects and some enrichment subjects
6. Experience with lesson and activity planning
7. Ability to take initiative and work with good judgment
8. Ability to function effectively with teaching staff as a team member and work independently
9. Excellent oral communication skills and ability to communicate with people from all backgrounds in situations requiring sensitivity and good judgment
10. Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
11. Ability to work well in culturally diverse setting and knowledge of local population served
12. Ability to pass a mandatory background clearance required of all childcare workers in the State of New Mexico
