United Way of Santa Fe County has spent the last several years transforming itself from an agency that passes through funds to member agencies to an organization that strives to make a lasting community impact and add value to donor dollars. It is committed to supporting a coordinated and integrated health and human service system through a Community Impact Agenda that has established four community priorities, identified by a diverse group of individuals and organizations. The four priority areas are:
Helping Kids Succeed
Improving Health and Healing
Increasing Self Sufficiency
Unifying Our Diverse Community
We are dedicated to leveraging resources to impact core community needs to improve lives and create lasting change. Two initiatives involve broad efforts aimed at resolving fundamental community conditions. These are:
Early Childhood Development. We are taking the lead to mobilize the community to improve the lives of our young children and prepare them for a productive future. Among several other early literacy programs we are providing administrative guidance and financial investment to operate a preschool for four year olds in an underserved public school. This pre-school is receiving attention at the State level and may serve as a model for the State's proposed preschool program.
Our Board has identified success in school as an important indicator for success in life. To achieve a model for success in school, Our United Way has created the Santa Fe Children's Project. This is a targeted geographic area where multiple services will be supplied to kids and their families to improve their chances of success in school. Our work there has begun with the implementation of the pre-school program mentioned above.
Community Resource helpline – 2-1-1tm. All Santa Fe County residents are be able to call 2-1-1 and be connected to appropriate community based-organizations or government agencies that provide critical health and human services, both for those in need and those who want to volunteer. 2-1-1 is a national United Way project funded, administered and run by local United Ways. Our United Way is working with the State, City and County of Santa Fe, all of whom are helping to make 2-1-1 a reality for Santa Fe County.
