Parents of children attending the Santa Fe Children's Project PreK Program at Kaune Elementary School meet with teachers to learn about the program, and what their children will be doing throughout the school year. They will learn how learning through play will contribute to their growth and ability to learn, and prepare them for entrance to the academic world.

The third of six parenting groups will teach caregivers the basics of anger management for adults and children so that parents learn to set the example. This group is also held at the Agua Fria Elementary School in Builing C, Room 308. The group is bilingual and food is provided. There is no child care but children are welcome. This service is provided for to any adult who cares for a child attending the Santa Fe Children's Project PreK Program. Odilia Mendez MS, LPCC and Alicia de Burrola are the facilitators.
The parents of the PreK classes at Agua Fria are invited to an Orientaion on Thurs. Oct. 1 at 5 pm at the AF Gym. There will be food for all and childcare will be provided. Parents will get a Dental Presentation and will get to meet all the straff. All parents are asked to attend.

We will begin parenting classes for all of our PreK families on Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Agua Fria Elementary Building C, Room 308. We will have food but no child care although children are welcome. The second of six parenting groups will be held at Agua Fria Elementary, Building , Room 308 focused on helping parents learn and use the most effective consequences. Parents, Grandparents or any care giver of a child attending our PreK classes is invited. We will have food and it is bilingual.
Parents will learn Anger Management skills so they can model for their children. They will also learn about what works best to help a pre-schooler control his anger and behavior. All care givers of the children enrolled in any of the Santa Fe Children's Project PreK Programs are invited to attend. The groups are bilingual and we will have lunch.
We are what we eat and that is so true with children. So this Parenting Group will focus on healthy habits related to eating and how to get the kids to cooperate. It is held Oct. 28 at Agua Fria Elementary, Building C, Room 308. Groups are lead by Odilia Mendez, MS, LPCC, and Alicia de Burrola. The groups are bilingual and there will be lunch provided. There is no childcare but children are welcome.
There will be a Parenting Class for Agua Fria PreK parents to discuss the connection between nutrition and a child's development. All parents or care givers of children who attend the United Way PreK programs are invited to attend.
Join us on Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. to learn about your child's development. We will have snack and child care will be provided.
In Novewmber the Parenting Class will meeting Nov. 19 also from 5:30 to 7:00. The presentation will be given by Homewise and will help families learn how to buy a new home or refinance their present home.
Parents will learn Relaxation and Stress Management techniques that work. Research shows that if you are relaxed there is no tension or anger. This group is again held at Agua Fria Elementary, Building C, Room 308. Care givers of children in our PreK programs are invited. this group is bilingual and there is food for all. We have no childcare but small children are welcome.
The Planatarium of the Santa Fe Community College will have a special show for the Santa Fe Children's project PreK Families on Wed., Nov. 11 from 11-12.
In My Backyard, a program narrated by Nickelodeon's Fred Penner, teaches children about the wonders in their back yeard given the changing seasons and the changes in the stars. All families who have children in the UWSFC PreK classes are invited to join in the fun. There is no charge for this event.
Sometimes you can't afford to spent money so what do you do? Participants will share their experiences on what to do that won't break the bank but is still fun for the whole family. This group will be held at Agua Fria Elementary School, Building C, Room 308. The group is bilingual and food will be provided. Care givers of children attending our PreK program are invited to attend.
The Kaune Elementary School PreK Family Program will host a Ready to Read workshop on Thursday Feb. 25 from 5:30 to 6:45.
Parents of young children will learn about skill that will help make their child K-ready. they will discover about the literacy kit you already have at home and find aout about more resources to get your child ready for school.
This workshop will be facilitated by Lisa Rohleder who has a master's degree focusing on language and cognitive development. She spent many years teaching children in and out of the classroom.

School is out Monday, March 8 through Friday, March 12, but that doesn’t mean the PreK program will be idle. On Tuesday, March 9, PreK students and their families are invited to experience the “Wayang Kulit” exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Art. Children will learn about story-telling in Indonesia with hands-on experiences with shadow puppets and musical instruments. After touring the exhibit we will convene in the museum’s studio workshop to make ‘wings and headbands’ inspired by the exhibit. All of these activities will be guided by a bilingual educator from the museum.

PreK Parents at Agua Fria are invited to three events for Coffee and Conversation. Two will be held right after drop off from 7:55 to 8:45 on March 17 and March31. The other will be to accomodate the PM class March 24 from 10:55 to 11:45.
All parents are invited to attend this event which will be held in English and Spanish so that parents can let know if there are any unmet needs that we can help with. Along with the conversations we will be doing a survey to insure family imput so we may have the best services possible.
