Justice Ginsburg will be reading to families participating in United Way of Santa Fe County programs. SANTA FE, NM – Supreme Court of the United States Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will visit United Way of Santa Fe County at Agua Fria on Tuesday, August 16th, from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. Justice Ginsburg will read Go West by New Mexico author Joel Nakamura to children and families participating in United Way of Santa Fe County (UWSFC) programs. The focus will be the importance of early literacy and reading to babies and young children.

The event will also highlight the positive impact of high quality early childhood education and care programs for working families and how it can empower mothers to stay in the workforce and advance their education.

“We are thrilled to have Justice Ginsburg join us to read to the families participating in our early childhood programs,” UWSFC President and CEO Katherine Freeman said. “We take a two-generation approach in our programs, focusing on empowering parents and caregivers. Justice Ginsburg is a trailblazer, fighting for equality, women and working families. She is an inspiration.”

Early childhood education and care is the sole mission of United Way of Santa Fe County, with a commitment to ensuring that every child receives an opportunity to succeed in school and in life. United Way of Santa Fe County at Agua Fria, in the former Agua Fria Elementary School building, houses all of UWSFC home visiting and parent support programs including: Great Start Family Support; the First Born® Program; Family, Friends and Neighbors; and community workshops and classes. The facility is a partnership with the Santa Fe Public Schools.
